Hi! I'm Marianne, certified sophrologist RNCP
I first came to know about sophrology when I moved to France in 2009. Coming from Canada, I had never heard of this wellness technique before, but it had me intrigued because I saw that it was so popular here in France!
When I came close to a major burnout in my last job (complete with my first-ever panic attacks), I started seeing a sophrologist to see if it would help me get back on track. In just a few sessions, I was able to manage my stress, let go of the pressure I was putting on myself and feel better in my life as a whole.
When I left my last job, I felt called to become a certified sophrologist at the Institut de Formation à la Sophrologie (Paris) in order to bring this powerful technique to the English-speaking world.
I’d love to share this technique with you so that you can experience first-hand the benefits of sophrology!
By letting go of what’s holding you back, you can discover your own resources and build your self-confidence, knowing that you are aligned with your true values.

What happens in a sophrology session?
Each sophrology session follows the same format:
- A brief time for reflection and settling in
- 3-4 Dynamic Relaxation exercises (standing or seated)
- 1 Guided Positive Visualisation (seated or lying down)
- A brief time for writing about your experience during the session
How long does each session last?
Each weekly session lasts 60-75 minutes.
Is sophrology a therapy?
Sophrology does not replace any medical or psychotherapeutic treatment.
If you are working with a medical professional, sophrology can be a wonderful complementary practice, but is better suited to 1:1 individual sessions.
What do I need to prepare for each session?
You can come as you are to your sophrology session. You will need:
- A calm space with enough room to safely reach overhead and out to the sides.
- A reliable internet connection.
- A chair for some exercises.
- A notebook and pen for writing.
- A potentional space for lying down.*
*During the guided visualisations, you have the choice of sitting or lying down. You can prepare a yoga mat or mattress, if you choose to lie down.
Do I need to practice between sessions?
Yes, there is a bit of homework! You are invited to choose the exercises that you enjoyed the most to practice between sessions at the time of your choosing.
Sophrology is like physical exercise; the more you practise, the stronger you become.
How much time do I need to practice between sessions?
The exercises take no more than a few minutes to do each day.
You can choose a time of day that works for you – just after getting up, during your lunch break or just before bed, for example – and do as many exercises as you like. The more you do, the better! 🙂
Is there a lot of writing involved?
There is not a lot of writing. We use this as a way to recognise where we’re at and also to digest the experience of each session. If we were meeting live, you might be doing this part out loud, as it’s an integral part to each session.
